What is International No Diet Day?

International No Diet Day was first launched in the UK in 1992 by Mary Evans Young, a woman who overcame an eating disorder and wanted to challenge society’s obsession with thinness and restrictive diets. Since then, the movement has spread across the globe.

Why is this day so important?

In many cultures, we are surrounded by messages that tell us we need to look a certain way to be healthy or attractive. Diet culture often promotes unrealistic standards that can lead to low self-esteem, anxiety, and even eating disorders.

International No Diet Day encourages us to:

  • Appreciate our bodies for what they can do.
  • Enjoy food without guilt or shame.
  • Question harmful beauty standards.
  • Focus on mental and physical well-being – not just weight.

It’s a chance to take a break from dieting and instead focus on being kind to yourself, listening to your body, and celebrating your uniqueness.
