Did you know that Saint Patrick was not actually Irish? He was probably Scottish or Welsh and came from a rich Christian family. Old documents say that when he was a teenager, Irish pirates took him to Ireland to work as a slave. In Ireland, he started talking to people about God and shared his Christian beliefs.
International Popularity
March 17 is a big celebration day in Ireland. Because many Irish people moved to other countries, many people around the world feel partly Irish because of their ancestors. This means Saint Patrick’s Day is celebrated all over the world, from Boston to Tokyo, Sydney to Buenos Aires. Saint Patrick’s Day is celebrated in more countries than any other national festival.
